Liquid Love - How to Care For Your Latex Properly, And It’ll Love You Back!

Everyone loves a little latex, right? And if you love it, you will want to take care of all your latex pieces that are currently sitting in your closet… or drawer wink*.So, let’s review some important bullet points for you to keep in mind:

  • Don’t forget metal will stain the fabric. In order to avoid any stains, keep your pieces separate from pennies, coins and the like.
  • According to some people, leather can actually damage latex. Apparently it has something to do with the oils released, so just to be on the safe side, you better keep them separate.
  • You know what actually damages latex? Water and humility. It will discolor and destroy your pieces; in fact, they will make it rotten! When you wash your pieces, make sure to let them air dry completely before storing them.
  • That is why you should also be careful with sweat. As I can’t tell you not to sweat when you are wearing latex, you will have to be extra careful with it. That means washing your pieces often (if not after each use) to get rid of that water mixed with salt, also known as sweat.
  • You will also have to stay away from oils like greases, mechanical oils and solvents because they will also damage the pieces. In order to make it shinier, use a lubricating product designed for it.
  • In addition, you should also be aware of any sharp objects near your latex garments. This means you will need to be extra careful when you are putting them on because of, you know, nails.
  • Another thing that will stain latex is nicotine, especially if they are light, white and translucent colors. So if you are a smoker (or your partner, or someone who will touch the garment), make sure to wash the hands before touching the fabric. Otherwise, you may end up with yellow stains on it.
  • Sunlight is also extremely damaging to latex because it will discolor it. Again, the lighter and transparent colors have the extra risk. So don’t expose latex to direct sunlight; just let the pieces air dry when you wash them.
