If you are starting out with bondage, it may feel overwhelming. And that is ok, is only natural to feel that way. There are only about a million techniques and equipment, wink*. Just keep in mind Rome wasnβt built in a day, so you wonβt become an expert overnight. But with patience and experience you will able to learn all there is. Although there will always be more room to grow and learn, of course.
At first, you want to start with the smaller and simpler things. It will best if you donβt get overly fussy at first and just KISS (Keep It Simple, Sweetheart wink*). You can get some basic rope; the most common materials are cotton and nylon. The length will depend on what you want to explore and your budget. You can get different lengths or you get a long one and then cut several shorter pieces to tie wrists or ankles. The longer pieces can be used for chest or thighs. If you cut your nylon rope, make sure to burn the ends so they donβt get frayed. If your rope is a different material, you can always glue the ends.
Nylon is good because it is easy to clean and you can loosen it easilyβ¦And that is also a downside as well; the knots can fall apart, so that can be either a good or a bad thing depending on how you are looking it. Thinner ropes are a bit more dangerous, so itβs best to go with thicker ones even though they can be a bit more difficult to handle.
Clothesline is another popular material. Itβs pretty flexible and itβs also easy to work with. On the downside, it gets super dirty and it can be quite a pain to untie the knots. So if you are a beginner, this material may not be the safest or the best choice.
What you donβt want to get, is a rope of a rough material. This means is not a good idea to get twine, manila or jute. These materials can be really rough on the skin and unless that is specifically what you are looking for because that is what you like, stick with nylon and cotton.
With rope, you also want to get a pair of scissors. They will be necessary for emergencies so you want them nearby. Keep in mind thinner ropes will cut easily into the skin and will restrict circulation quicker than thicker ropes. Besides, if you are also interested in wrap, you will need scissors as well. If you can get medical scissors, even better.
