Things that You Should Know about Period Sex

One of the biggest taboos out there is having sex when the woman is on her period. Some couples opt for other options when it is that time of the month (like oral sex or masturbation) because they don’t think actual penetration is on the table. Your first reaction may be one a bit of surprise or even a bit grossed out but there are some facts you should know that may ease your mind into this. If after all of this you are still not comfortable with the idea, you can obviously skip but if next time you are both in the mood and don’t really mind if she is on her period, know that you don’t have to skip it and do something else. At the end of the day is just sex only with more fluids.

To begin with, menstrual blood is not made up of that much blood; the majority of it is just uterine tissue. Probably the main problem people encounter when it comes to period sex is they feel it is gross or dirty; but think about it, when is sex ‘clean’? When you have sex you are covered with your partner’s bodily fluids, so this is not different. Since we are talking about bodily fluids, period can actually provide a little bit more of lubrication so that is one point in favor of period sex.

Something else that can create some doubt is whether the woman can get pregnant when she has sex on her period. Technically she shouldn’t be able to get pregnant because of well, sciece: a period means the ovulation process has passed. But here is the tricky part, as you may know not every woman has the same cycle, so if the woman has irregular periods ovulation doesn’t happen at the exact time every month. So long story short, do use birth control when you have period sex because you don’t want to have an unnecessary scare here.

Since we are talking birth control, you should know period sex is like regular sex, in the sense you can still get STD’s if you are not protected. If this is a new partner and you haven’t been checked, be aware you can still get an STD or an STI if you don’t take the necessary precautions. Oh! And you should also be aware sometimes the pH on the woman’s body changes during her period so she can be more susceptible to yeast infections and those infections could be transmitted to men.

When it comes to the actual sex, just make sure to put on a towel above the sheets, especially if she has a heaver period; this will protect your sheets. On the other hand, you can always have sex in the shower to make things less messy on that front.

It is also completely safe to go down on her when she is on her period; it is up to you. If you are a bit uncomfortable with the idea of blood, just maintain your mouth in the clitoris and that upper area and don’t go bellow to the vulva.

And usually orgasms are better when a woman has period because of the increased sensitivity. Even better, if you suffer from cramps try having an orgasm because it will take away the pain better than any pill out there…trust me *wink*
