The Aging Penis - What to Expect and How to Prepare Yourself

Getting older…it happens to the best of us. As you age, you will start to notice some changes in your body. After all, this is the circle of life…but it is one thing to read about them and another to experience those changes yourself. In any case, it is always better to be prepared right? And as you may be aware of the changes in your body, you are probably less aware about the things that will happen with your precious cargo. Because yes, your penis will also experience some changes as you age. So buckle up and let’s start preparing!

The first thing you need to be aware about is your scrotum will drop lower as you start to get older. There is no escaping this side effect due to the loss of muscle mass older people experience. This usually is not an extreme situation, but you could develop something called ‘splash down syndrome’…and if you need explaining, is not pleasant: basically when you sit down on the toilet, your scrotum is so low it splashes against the water. Gross, I know.

But there is a silver lining: there is a medical procedure to correct this condition. It is called a scrotoplasty and the doctor will improve your position, getting that scrotum to where it was supposed to be. Kind of just like a facelift…

Something else you need to be aware of is that your member will bend noticeably to the left or the right; basically, it will curve a lot one way or the other. This is due to previous trauma from sexual activity (yes, even though it’s fun, your member experiences injuries throughout the years) and even sports. And that scar tissue does not heal in a symmetrical way, so instead of a straight line, you end up with a curve.

As you get older (we are speaking about being in your 60’s and 70’s), it will probably get worse. If you are looking for the extreme version of this syndrome (because I know you were wondering), that’s called ‘punctuation mark syndrome’ …and no, I don’t think I need to explain why it is called like that. But once again, a medical procedure exists to help in those cases. The bad news? The procedure consists of basically injecting Botox right into your penis… but maybe that’s not as bad as it sounds?

One thing that most men will find unsettling and not look forward to is the shrinkage. Yes, we all know penises shrink when cold, but as you age, your size will go down. You know how people tend to get shorter as they age? This is similar to that experience, so there will be a progressive loss of size down there. Oh and by the way - those extra pounds right to the belly will not help. As your belly increases, the penile tissues get buried down - so when you gain weight, you lose your size. Basically for every 30 pounds you lose, a half-inch is added to your member…as well as working the other way around.

And as you get older, you are also more at risk of erectile dysfunction due to blood loss and circulation. If you want to help your chances at preventing it, you need to take the same precautions as someone with heart problems: eating healthy and regular exercise.

If you take good care of yourself, you may even avoid all the treatments needed that help with ED (namely meds, implants and injections). Doctors say there are some 90-year-old men who still get great erections because they have taken care of themselves, so practicing prevention is key here.

Lastly, there is something that doesn’t get that much attention - Prostate and testicular cancers are something all men should be aware of, but men can also get skin cancer on the penis. In the worst-case scenario, affected penises need to be removed. But don’t fret - staying out of tanning in the nude and maintaining good hygiene on uncircumcised members should be enough to prevent it.

And hey - the good news is, as you get older your sensitivity will decrease…so your penis will be smaller, but you will last longer. So, that’s still great news?
